U/TOOLS Privacy Notice

This notice explains how U/TOOLS handles your information when you use the Windows application.

Last updated:

Local image processing

U/TOOLS processes the images you select for conversion and displays your reference images on your Windows device. These image-processing features do not automatically upload your images to Urdrift or an online conversion service.

Converted files are written to the output location you choose. Images imported from the clipboard or a bitmap drag-and-drop can be saved in the application's local data folder so they can be used as references.

If you choose a shared, network or cloud-synced folder, your operating system and that storage provider may transfer or synchronize its contents independently of U/TOOLS.

Reference Boards and sessions

Saved Reference Boards contain a Board name, paths to the referenced image files, window positions and sizes, and display settings such as zoom, rotation, flipping and opacity. Board files link to images rather than embedding their contents.

Session restoration uses a locally saved Board snapshot with image paths and layout settings. Boards and sessions are not automatically uploaded to Urdrift. A Board can reveal filenames and folder paths if you choose to share it, so review it before sharing.

Local settings

U/TOOLS saves preferences on your device, including conversion options, output-folder settings and Explorer quick actions. Application data is stored under your Windows local application-data folder, in the URDRIFT/Convert and URDRIFT/UTools folders. Windows may redirect packaged application data into package-specific storage.

Diagnostics and support

The application also writes local diagnostic logs and process-session markers to help identify conversion failures, startup problems and unexpected exits. Raw logs may contain filenames, file paths, timestamps, conversion results and detailed error messages. These raw logs are not automatically sent to Urdrift.

Support reports are reviewed and sent by you

Creating a support report produces a local JSON file and a preview for you to review. The report includes technical information such as the application, Windows and runtime versions, processor architecture, event timestamps, event categories, counts and selected error codes.

The generated report uses a restricted set of fields designed to exclude image contents, filenames, file paths, raw error messages, saved settings and memory dumps. It is separate from the more detailed local logs.

Creating a report does not upload it or send an email. If you open an email draft, you must attach the report manually, review the message and choose Send yourself. You can choose not to share it.

If you contact support, Urdrift and your email provider receive the information you choose to send, including your email address, message and any attachments. Urdrift uses that information to respond to your request and investigate the issue. Avoid sending sensitive images or unfiltered logs unless you intend to share their contents.

Support-data retention

Support emails and attachments are retained while needed to handle your request and any related follow-up. We review them periodically and delete information that is no longer needed, unless we are required by law to retain it. You can request deletion by contacting [email protected].

Optional 14-day Pro trial

The Pro trial is optional and starts only when you click Start 14-Day Pro Trial. Installing or launching U/TOOLS does not start it. The trial lasts 14 days from activation recorded by the trial service. It does not require payment details or create a subscription. Free image-processing features remain available offline without activating a trial.

When you request a trial, U/TOOLS creates a persistent signing key for your current Windows user using Windows Cryptography Next Generation (CNG). The private key is configured as non-exportable, and U/TOOLS does not transmit it to the trial service. The app sends its public key, random challenges and signed responses to prove possession of that key. This is not a hardware fingerprint, and the app does not send your Windows account name or email address as part of trial verification.

Our trial service runs on Cloudflare Workers and D1. It derives a pseudonymous identifier from the public key and stores that identifier with the trial's original activation and expiry times. Temporary verification records also contain the public key, random challenge values, the requested action and an expiry time. Challenges expire after two minutes; expired records are cleaned up when the service handles later challenge requests, so they may remain stored longer than their validity period.

We use these records to provide the requested trial, verify its duration using server time and recognize a trial already used after ordinary app reinstallation on the same Windows account. Trial activation records are retained after expiry for that purpose and are not automatically deleted when you uninstall U/TOOLS. There is currently no automatic deletion schedule for activation records. You can contact [email protected] with questions or a request concerning these records, including access or deletion. Any applicable backup retention must also be considered when handling deletion requests.

Trial verification can occur on later app starts, in the background and after network reconnection. These status checks do not activate or restart a trial. A new app process requires an internet connection to verify trial access. A running process with a verified trial can use a signed offline lease for at most 24 hours, never beyond the original trial expiry. If verification is unavailable, Free features remain available. A verified purchased Microsoft Store Pro license takes priority and does not depend on the Cloudflare trial service.

The trial API does not receive image contents, image paths, filenames, Boards, support messages or payment details. Cloudflare processes network information, including the connecting IP address, to deliver and protect the service. The Worker uses the connecting IP address for rate limiting; our D1 trial tables do not store IP addresses. Worker invocation logging is disabled in the tested deployment, but this does not mean Cloudflare performs no infrastructure or security processing. Cloudflare's processing is subject to its applicable privacy and service terms.

Microsoft Store

In the Microsoft Store version, Microsoft Store handles purchases and license verification. U/TOOLS reads the resulting license status to determine whether Pro features are available and to restore an existing purchase.

Microsoft Store purchases, purchase restoration and license checks may use an internet connection and Microsoft's services. License checks can also use Microsoft's locally cached license information. U/TOOLS should therefore not be understood as an application that never uses the internet.

Payment details are handled through Microsoft's purchase interface, rather than a payment form operated by Urdrift in the application. Microsoft's handling of Store account, payment, device and licensing information is described in the Microsoft Privacy Statement.

The current implementation does not include an application analytics service, advertising SDK or automatic support-report uploader. This does not describe data handling performed separately by Windows, Microsoft Store, your email provider or services you choose to use.

Opening a website link uses your browser. The website or service you visit handles the request under its own privacy practices. This notice concerns the U/TOOLS application, rather than website hosting or browser activity.

Data removal

You control the images, converted outputs and Board files saved in locations you choose. Local settings, logs, support reports, clipboard-image copies and session files can be managed in the application's local data folders. Close U/TOOLS before removing its working data, and keep backups of anything you want to retain.

Removing a cached clipboard image can prevent a Board or saved session from reopening it. Resetting preferences is not the same as deleting images, Boards, sessions or licenses. Do not assume that uninstalling the application removes converted outputs or Boards saved elsewhere. The Windows CNG trial key is stored separately from ordinary app working files. Ordinary uninstallation does not remove that key or the server-side trial activation record; removing settings or cache files does not reset the trial.
